Jn 15:4-8 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
Sounds simple right?
Abide in old English means the place where we live.
In the Amplified Bible it reads
4 Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.
So meditation on that Jn 15:4-8, we see that abiding in Jesus means keeping our mind in God’s Word, and there quite a few promises that say the same thing, with a different touch. I’ll share only a few…
In the Old Covenant
Jos 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Psa 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in Yahweh’s law. On his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.
Psa 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.
In the New Covenant
Jn 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, If a man loves Me, he will keep My Word. And My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
Jn 6:63 It is the Spirit that makes alive, the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and are life.
Jn 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to the Jews who believed on Him, If you continue in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
As we see, to affirm that we abide in Jesus, we have to give him first place in our lives, and that means we listen to Him first thing, in prayer, before we decide on our things what we’re going to do, first thing means reading His Word before we read newspapers, social media, internet, what ever else, where actually many times what we do is waste time. If we give Him first place, then we can rest assure that what we feel like doing afterwards, that is what the Spirit of God within us is prompting us to do, like Php 2:13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.
The only way to renew our minds as we are asked in Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.
Is Jas 1:25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
Time spent watching programs, movies, videos, etc., produced by the devil’s people, is like opening the door of our house to demons, devils, and other foul spirits, who will steal the, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, our self-control.
Entertaining ourselves with the devil’s propaganda, will always be detrimental for our well being, and those around us.
Col 3:1-4 If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are from this world. For you died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall you also with Him be manifested in glory.
Hallelujah for all those promises. When we think of Isa 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You; because he trusts in You.
When we see people fearing, dreading, unhappy, mad, unloving, disrespectful, uttering filthy words, without self control, we can see that they have not been keeping their mind in God’s Word, otherwise they’d be glowing with the fruits of the Spirit as depicted in Gal 5:22
But don’t feel discouraged if you haven’t renewed you mind yet, and continue to be plagued by the enemy.
Simply, put yourself together, and start praising the Lord, & thanking Him that the victory is granted by the promises above, and tell the devil out loud and with authority… I belong to God, and I am overcoming you! Besides greater is He that is in me than you, besides I have authority over you, and Jesus cleansed me from all of my sins and dressed me with His Righteousness... So I proclaim you defeated, my Lord Jesus defeated you at Calvary, and it is in His name that I command you to get away from me, in Jesus Name… Amen!!!
Here are the references to that prayer
1Jn 4:4 Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
Luk 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.
Col 2:13-15 And you, being dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, you, I say, did he make alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses; having blotted out the bond written in ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us: and he hath taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; having despoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
2Co 5:21 For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
So let’s abide in Jesus ALL THE TIME, when we are doing our daily chores we should always be communing with the Holy Spirit… remember He dwells right inside you!!!
1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit in you, whom you have of God? And you are not your own.
So let’s fight the good battle of Faith… in Jesus Name…
Blessings… Alejandro
