Jesus gave us Power in His Name!

June 2020

Right before Jesus went to Heaven to sit at the right Hand of the Father, He gave us this command.

Mar 16:15-18 He said to them, “Go into all the world, and preach the Good News of the Gospel to everyone in the world. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who believe: in My Name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

I have emboldened the words in My Name, so that we can consider the importance of the Name of Jesus under the New Covenant between God & man, that is the New Testament.

As we can see throughout all the Gospels, Jesus’ name is more than just a name.

Ἰησοῦς is the word used in the New Testament in Greek for the name of Jesus. In Thayer’s dictionary of the Greek Language the definition: of Jesus = “Jehovah is salvation”

The apostle Paul was given this revelation…

Php 2:9-11 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the Name which is above every name; 10 that in the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven and things on Earth and things under the Earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

We may wonder… When will that happen? Because we can see, that right now on this Earth of ours, the majority of people in the world still doesn’t know the real Jesus. They may have heard his name, but they don’t bow their knees to his name, nor confess Him as Lord either. And there are many that hate Jesus & attack him openly, as a matter of fact, the main stream media & Hollywood constantly attack Jesus, & Christianity has become one of their main targets, which they try to demean & abase in the eyes of the world.

But we also read…

Mat 28:18-20… Jesus… said: All authority has been given unto me in Heaven and on Earth. 19 You go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

Pay attention that when Jesus was here, all evil spirits knew who He was…

Mar 1:34 He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. He didn’t allow the demons to speak, because they knew him.

But we see that Jesus had authority over all spirits & they had to obey Him, & in the case of Satan himself, after Jesus resisted his temptations, Satan had to leave Him even though Satan always came back with a new strategy all the time, but Jesus overcame him every single time.

Act 10:38 even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

The apostle Paul also received that…

Col 2:9-15 For in Jesus all the fullness of the deity dwells bodily, 10 and in Him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power; 11 in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. he made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us; and he has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; 15 having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Hallelujah!!! That passage is amazing! The fullness of God is in Jesus, but also we in Him are made full. We have been made alive together with Jesus, having all the list of sins we have committed nailed to the Cross of Jesus, and right there on His Cross, with his sacrifice where He shed all his blood for us, Jesus defeated all principalities & spiritual powers. That’s why Jesus said: All authority has been given unto me in Heaven and on Earth. (Principalities= the vast array of evil and malicious spirits who make war against the people of God)

2Co 5:21 For Him who knew no sin He made to be sin on our behalf; so that in Him we might become the Righteousness of God.

So we see that in the Cross Jesus received our sins & gave us His Righteousness in exchange. So that now: we are the Righteousness of God in Him!

Jesus made sure we would know that we were not going to be left alone & said… I am with you always, even unto the end of the world… So… Do you think evil spirits & principalities know that Jesus is in us?

Act 19:13-16 But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to invoke over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 There were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this. 15 The evil spirit answered, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?” 16 The man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

We, see that those itinerant Jews, who tried to use the Name of Jesus were bitten by the evil spirits, because they were not filled with God´s Spirit as Children of God. But as Jesus promised us, He is with us always, then…

Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

So besides having the indwelling of the Spirit of God in us, Jesus also gave us the use of His Name, & with The Name comes His Authority which comes with the name… in My Name you will cast out demons; you will speak with new tongues; you will take up serpents; & if you drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt you; you will lay hands on the sick, & they will recover.”

So no doubt, evil spirits will recognize Jesus in us. But God made sure that we know: what a Child of God can do with the name of Jesus in his lips, because He gave us plenty of Bible passages where we can get a hold of them.

Jn 14:10-14 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in Me? The Words that I speak to you I do not speak of Myself, but the Father who dwells in Me, He does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the very works themselves. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, He who believes on Me, the works that I do he shall do also, and greater works than these he shall do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you may ask in My Name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My Name, I will do it.

Jn 16:26 At that day you will ask in My Name; and I do not say to you that I will pray to the Father for you, 27 for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came out from God.

I am sure that there are many great amazing things in these promises, but I want to bring a few of those that jump at me when I read them, even though I am beginning to discover some of them now & I am at the beginning of this road…

1- He who believes on Me, the works that I do he shall do also: The same works or even greater works than Jesus, we can do. In that passage we read there is one basic condition: That we believe that Jesus meant what He said! If you don’t believe it, it doesn’t work. So if we believe in Him, then we know He has given us His Name so that when we can ask anything in his Name, then He will do it.

2- I go to the Father… Rom 8:34 who is he condemning? It is Christ who has died, but rather also who is raised, who is also at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

Because Jesus is sitting at the Right Hand of God… when we ask the Father in His Name, He intercedes for us, & the amazing thing about this promise is that the reason why God will answer this type of prayer is so that the Father may be glorified in the Son, in other words that God will be glorified because we receive an answer to prayer because we do so in His Name! Or also because it is in God’s own interest to see that our prayers in Jesus Name receive the answer because that brings Him Glory!

I will give an example. Under the Old Covenant…

1Ki 18:36-39 At the time of the evening offering, Elijah the prophet came near, and said, “Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.

37 Hear me, Yahweh, hear me, that this people may know that you, Yahweh, are God, and that you have turned their heart back again.”

38 Then Yahweh’s fire fell, and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces. They said, “Yahweh, he is God! Yahweh, he is God!”

See, Elijah prayed in the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac & Israel & he proclaimed that those Israelis present would know that Yahweh was the true God, & that he, Elijah, was his Servant. & what did Yahweh do? He sent fire from heaven & consumed Elijah’s offering! & that glorified Him!

Now us, under the New Covenant… We pray to God the Father & say… Father God, in the name of Jesus, our Savior, your Son, let these people know that You are the only True God & I am your Son, in the name of Jesus I am asking this mountain (healing, provisions, whatever the need) to be cast into the sea. In Jesus Name, I pray! In the Words of Jesus…

Mar 11:22-24 Have faith of God. For truly I say to you that whoever shall say to this mountain, Be moved and be cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he said shall occur, he shall have whatever he said. 24 Therefore I say to you, All things, whatever you ask, when you pray, believe that you shall receive them, and you will have them.

Hallelujah!

So as we follow the disciples of Jesus in the book of Acts, we see how indispensable & powerful the Name of Jesus became in the mouth of Holy Spirit filled Children of the Most High God!

Because the list of miracles & works the disciples accomplished in the Name of Jesus is quite long, I suggest you look up in your concordance to strengthen your faith in His Name. But I will give, here, some which I find very fitting.

1- We find that the disciples, Peter, Paul, Stephen, Philip, etc., all preached in the Name of Jesus…

Peter Act 2:21 It will be that whoever will call on the Name of the Lord will be saved.’

Act 8:12 Philip preaching good news concerning God’s Kingdom and the Name of Jesus Christ

Paul Act 9:29 preaching boldly in the Name of the Lord Jesus.

Act_19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

2-Healed in the Name of Jesus

Act 3:6-8 But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give you. in My Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” 7 He took him by the right hand, and raised him up. Immediately his feet and his ankle bones received strength. 8 Leaping up, he stood, and began to walk. He entered with them into the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God.

See, Peter didn’t pray to the Father to heal the lame man; he used the Name of Jesus to command the lame man to get up & walk, and then helped him to get up & walk. And God was praised as a result.

Later on when questioned by the Jewish Authorities responsible for making Pilate crucify Jesus…

Act 4:8-10 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole.

Peter reaffirmed: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth this man stands here before you whole. See in the Name!

Act 15:26 men who have risked their lives for the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Act 16:18 She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” It came out that very hour.

Act 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus.

Act 19:17 This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the Name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

Act 21:13 Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the Name of the Lord Jesus.”

Act 22:16 Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the Name of the Lord.’

So beloved… The Victory is ours in The Name of the Lord Jesus, AMEN…!!!

Let’s go forth in the in The Name of the Lord Jesus, Love in The Name of the Lord Jesus, Pray in The Name of the Lord Jesus, Heal in The Name of the Lord Jesus, Cast out devils in The Name of the Lord Jesus, & 1Co 10:31 Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
