Tattoos

21-11-2019

As we can all see, “tattoos” have been growing in popularity in the world, & will continue to do so, as most famous people continue to tattoo their bodies & of course followers, just copy them almost automatically. We can find tattoos in many churches as well, & even the pastors wear their tattoos quite openly as to show their approval to all those who wish to wear them. Imagine, everyone else in the congregation, will of course make sure they follow their example.

For reasons known to God, in the Old Testament, Yahweh forbade the children of Israel to tattoo their bodies.

Lev 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you. I am Yahweh.

One thing we know for sure is that all Laws in the O.T. given to the nation of Israel were for the benefit of the people, & with the intention of keeping them pure & clean from all the sin & perversions of the nations surrounding them. As a proud Father, God wanted his Children to look different & much better than the children of the world.

So God sent Jesus, to do what no one else could do, & that was to keep all the Law, so that He could offer himself as a pure, holy & righteous sacrifice, shedding his Holy Blood to atone for our sins & thus setting us free from the O.T. Law, which is called the Law of Sin & Death… Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.

So Jesus gave us the Law of the Spirit of Life. Jn 13:34 A new commandment (Law) I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another.

If you give this commandment of bit of thought, you will realize, that it is impossible for normal human beings to keep either one; the Law of the Old Testament or the Law of the New Testament. To love like Jesus loves us is to love like God does, giving your life for your fellow neighbors, & that is impossible for natural people to do. Now if you have been born again, by the Grace of God, by faith in Jesus, not by any good works of your own, then you have received God’s nature within you & His nature then loves others unselfishly & now you keep God’s Law. Loving those around you is a proof that you are a Child of God.

1Jn 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love his brother abides in death. 24 And he who keeps His commandment dwells in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit which He gave to us.

And we know that when we walk in love we keep all the Laws of God as well.

Rom 13:8-9 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

So the question is: What about “tattoos” under the Law of the Spirit of Life?

Well, the new Law of the Spirit of Life tells me… 1Co 6:19-20… don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

So knowing that the body where I live is not mine but God’s, should be reason enough for me to ask the Spirit of God who dwells in me if He is pleased with me tattooing His Temple, correct?

The Word also tells me1Co 10:31 Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

So will putting a tattoo on my body, will somehow help me to glorify my loving Father & the Kingdom of Heaven?

When people look at me; will my tattoo make them think about God? I can say: I know, I’ll tattoo my body with the face of Jesus, so when they see my tattoo they’ll think of Jesus.

Or I’ll tattoo a nice Bible verse on my body. My question is: Will that make you look different from the people from the world? Is that what Jesus asked us to do when He said: Let your Light so shine that the world may see your good works & glorify our Father which is in Heaven? Mat 5:16

I just wrote “people with tattoos” in my web search engine & then clicked on images, & saw tens of photos with people with tattoos all over, it is difficult for me to see the Light of God, in those tattoos, maybe you can & I am just short minded.

Just make sure you ask the Lord if He wants you to tattoo your body, & then go on from there, if you have peace in your heart to tattoo your body, then go ahead.

What if you already had your tattoos when you confessed Jesus as Lord of your life, & the tattoos aren't that godly? Well, God doesn't love you more or less because you have tattoos or not, He loves you because you have believed in Jesus, & even before you realized Jesus loves you, He was already after you. He is the one that brought you to his Kingdom, it wasn't you idea.

Jn 16:27  for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.

Col 1:13  For He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.

Here I will share one more passage of Scripture which may help you to see things under God's light.

2Co 6:14~18 Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever? What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Therefore “‘Come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you.  I will be to you a Father. You will be to me Sons and Daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.”

I pray those Bible passages will be a blessing to you!

Love in Jesus… Alejandro
